i opened a door and there were wigs on sightless mannikins and a mirror and racks of lingerie with pockets in it for prostheses and the woman said "come in" and i stepped through into this new club a secret club for what is more secret than lingerie with pockets in it? so don't tell a soul
I love this one- deceptively simple but profound.
Thinking of you. Wishing you health and healing!

That’s a good idea. If my underwear jad pockets in it I could put my wallet in there and I could go out without trousers on! How liberating.

eerie and fascinating: a strange new world indeed : I’m intrigued by the missing bits of the leaf: I’m assuming that’s symbolic

Actually I picked that photo without much thought. But then, later, two thoughts struck me. One is your missing bits idea (post surgery). But the other was that the holes almost make the leaf look like a mask. And how all the wigs and prostheses are to help sick people feel more normal – a mask 🎭 of their symptoms.

terrific! I missed the mask imagery: so true, and what a serendipitous choice for a photo —

oh, there’s a story you might enjoy — your poem reminded me of it — called ‘Scissors’ on the website ‘Granta’

Great story, thanks John. And a good website to know about too. How easy we have it here in middle class Australia.
