I Love Winter

This is what I wrote exactly one year ago…

Out of the Cave

Under this

aluminium sky

the day feels blank

as a factory wall.

The chickens fluff

fatly

keeping busy

in the sunless dirt.

The washing hangs

limp and two dimensional

in front of

the enthusiastic

budding of the Magnolia.

It is winter

with its grumpier face on.

Pretty tame,

you have to say,

compared to

tennis-ball sized hail stones

and incinerated

National Parks.

      1. Thanks, Hobbo. That’s really lovely! I always look forward to reading your stuff too. I never quite know whether I’m going to laugh out loud or be thrown into deep ponderings or just totally have no idea what I’ve missed. πŸ˜€

      2. Yeah? I am about three days ahead of my three posts a day. That way I edit them each time I read them. Hopefully it improves the end product, although you can’t always tell! πŸ˜‚ I read it aloud as I’m typing, and if it doesn’t sound right, that’s when it gets a final edit. πŸ™‚ I know a few people though who prefer to go straight to the laptop. I think for me it’s the fear of that blank screen blinking at me!

  1. Really nice. I get such a feeling for the scene and the season. I remember seeing the news about the wildfires in your part of the world, and specifically, a woman trying to rescue some injured koalas. So heartbreaking.
