I realized some time after posting this that the snake picture was a terrible mistake. I picked it because the snake was a good colour to go with obsidian. But it was literally about a piece of volcanic rock – wrenched from its cosy home and flung into the cold, bright air.

It’s a good picture, and it does look like obsidian. Better than one I took a few days ago of a brown snake sunning itself in my herb garden, which was a bit blurry and taken from too far back. 🙂
