Yes, sometimes it’s so hard to capture – beauty or otherwise. For example, I really dislike the smell of photinia … it seems to be when the flowers are browning off. But I can’t think of a word to describe the smell. The closest I can come is the musical term discordant.
We used to have the red-tipped variety in the garden, and without fail, frost would take all the new red growth. It’s one of those plants that hates wind and spring frost. Really not at all suitable for our climate. I (oops!) accidentally took a saw to it and put into the compost pile. 😂
