Free Range Me

Written for Rattle’s Ekphrastic Challenge (image by John Stormer)

at the moment of walking in,
I’m already absent
not showing up in mirrors

at birth I wasn’t laid straight
giant head and loose, following hips.
I never slept under monochrome lids

and I know of no symbiosis
between the centre-parted plant
and the wall socket.

presence stands with the table
square rigged and precise
and green keeps separate from gold

this is our world
where the windows stare light,
blind as torches
